Serving the Cake
Americans dearly love cake warm from the oven, but a German Kuchen is meant to be served after cooling and will need to “set.” Only when the flavors have had time to blend and ripen do you get the expected taste. If possible, make the cake a day before you plan to serve it.
Most of these cakes keep for days if well wrapped. Some will keep much longer. Butter cakes are often served with a nice spoonful of Schlagsahne (whipped cream.) If you would like to keep the cake for another occasion, the butter cake family freezes very well.
